St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy in Derby is the UK’s first biophilic school, which has been built as part of a pilot project by the Department for Education.
Biophilic design focuses on connecting inside with nature, with the goal of promoting physical and mental health. Across the world outdoor schooling has been gaining popularity as one way to provide children and teenagers with greater access to nature. Outdoor school programs provide students with an immersive experience where they get to experience both the wonders and the challenges of nature, learning how to deal with risk and building and analysing their own relationship with the landscape.
The scheme incorporates Innovaré Offsite Limited psi-FAST panelised superstructure solution developed to achieve a full structural envelope combining to bring sustainability and full fire compliance, designed by Hawkin Brown and delivered with Tilbury Douglas. https://innovareoffsite.co.uk/case-studies/st-marys-catholic-voluntary-academy-primary-school/
